Connor Creek Ranch Home Private Trophy Fishing Lake

Artists Rendition of Connor Lake
Fishing Ponds South Pond South Pond

We added a 3½-acre custom trout lake the summer of 1999. Since then, very large brown, rainbow, cutthroat and brookies have flurished.
A consultant was hired to design the underwater habitat to create a high quality trout environment for fishing by the homestead owners.

Connor Creek will be the primary source for incoming water to Connor Creek Lake. A diversion structure will be installed approximately 1,100 feet upstream. This structure will divert water from Connor Creek to the west bypass ditch and to the small irrigation ditch on the east side.

Saphire Spring

Saphire Spring water is taken from the bypass ditch by a slide gate into a buried six or eight inch pipe. This pipe daylights near the lake edge. Large rock and cobble will be used to dissipate the flow energy and to create the impression of a bubbling spring.

Rip Rap

Rip Rap for bank protection and submerged shoals will typically be 4 foot wide and nine inches deep.

Section View, Typical Shoal

Length of shoals varies, all will extend at least to the 6 foot depth.  All large rock and boulders found during construction will be stockpiled for use as submerged fish cover.

Trout Habitat Structures

Constructed using sawmill sides, re-bar and wire mesh. Stream Team will construct ten of these structures on site.  Wire mesh will be attached to bottom frame of structure.  Cobble or overburden will be placed inside structure and on top of wire mesh to anchor structure to lake bottom.

Top View

Length of sides varies, 6 to 12 feet.

Side View

Height varies, 3 to 5 feet.

Typical Banks

Bank with shallow shelf. Width varies from 3 to 10 feet. Depth varies from 3 to 10 inches. These shallows are essential habitat for fry and baitfish. Aquatic wetland plants will thrive in these areas also.

For steep banks, a shelf is cut to support cobble. Depth varies. Willow cuttings should be embedded into bank as cobble is installed.

Some bank areas will require a silt fence until revegetation is established. Some bank areas will have an upland swale to trap detrimental sediment runoff. These swale areas will be planted with willows to increase the sediment trap effect.
